William Miller: Master of the Deal

I hadn't met William Miller before last Saturday. My only prior contact was a text message inviting me to a local Subaru dealership in Australia for a plate run-out promotion (new cars with last year's manufacturing date).

This is how a chance phone call from William resurrected a lost $83,000 deal and got me my two new Subarus.

After a long week of test drives, quotes, and negotiations with various Subaru dealerships, I couldn't get the deal I believed my research supported. Frankly, I was exhausted and ready to give up.

Ironically, I was just minutes from the dealership where William was hosting a VIP event when he called to follow up on the invitation. Our brief 90-second conversation revealed I wasn't interested in the plate run-out promotion. William admitted he didn't know about my two-car deal but offered to speak with the dealership's business manager on my behalf.

I sent a bold text outlining the deal I wanted and ending with, "Are we doing this?" William immediately replied, "Thanks Ross, I'm working on it right now with the Business Manager." Within 10 minutes, the business manager called and confirmed they would do the two-car deal.

Consider this: the sale was lost. I was unhappy, disengaged, and exploring other options. Yet, in under 10 minutes, with a 90-second call and a follow-up text, William Miller, who had never met me, closed an $83,000 sale.

This is the Art of the Deal, and William Miller is a master. He qualified me as a buyer, negotiated terms and price, and closed the sale without hype, pressure, or sales cliches. He simply asked questions and listened attentively to my expectations and requirements.
